Accessibility improvements will begin at the Hosmer Grove Campground parking lots at Haleakala National Park on Tuesday and take about a month to complete.

During construction, one of the two parking lots will be closed. Work will begin at the upper parking lot, the one closest to the main park road, and then proceed to the lower parking lot (closest to the grove).

Park officials said there will always be access to area trails, the campground and at least one restroom, but the picnic shelter will be closed while the lower lot is improved.

Accessibility improvement work in the summit area of Haleakalā is scheduled through September 2013. Visitors and residents should expect continued heavy construction traffic on Haleakala Highway and Crater Road. For the latest updates, check www.nps.gov/hale or call 572-4400.
