A south swell is expected to peak today with waves of 4-to-7-feet, just below advisory levels.

Several storms from Tasmania, southwest of the islands, to Easter Island, southeast of Hawaii, last week are generating overlapping swells, National Weather Service forecasters said.

The waves should peak today and slowly diminish through Sunday.

The overlapping swells and different directions should mean more frequent sets, forecasters said.

The swell began building today with 3-to-5-foot wave faces.

The current swell is likely to be the largest, but not the last of the summer waves into next week.

Tropical Cyclone Cosme may also bring small-to-moderate waves to south shores Sunday through Tuesday and another storm near New Zealand could bring moderate surf on July 4 and 5th.
