Man charged for alleged joyride through Waikiki

    Police were looking for a suspect who drove an allegedly stolen truck through coconut trees onto Waikiki Beach early this morning and jumped into the ocean.

Police have charged the 43-year-old man who allegedly drove a stolen dump truck through Waikiki, hitting two marked Hono­lulu police cars before he tried to escape into the ocean Sunday morning.

Allen Pitts, who does not have local address, was charged Monday with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and two counts of first-degree criminal property damage. Pitts was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
