The Medical Examiner’s office has identified the 58-year-old homeless man who was stabbed to death last kaFriday morning as Robert Coleman, Jr.

Coleman died after being stabbed by Brian T. Kim, 58, at Kailua District Park, police said.

Kim is expected to enter a plea in Circuit Court July 29.

He remains in custody, unable to post $250,000 bail.

Kim was charged with second-degree murder after a witness told police that he saw the suspect lunge toward the victim and that he "appeared to be punching him."

The witness quoted the victim as saying, "He stabbed me," according to a police statement filed in court earlier this week.

Both men are believed to be homeless and had spent the night near the gym and pool area of the park.

Kailua residents held two meetings at the park not far from where Coleman was killed last week and established a neighborhood security watch program.

At Wednesday night’s meeting, 40 people signed up for the neighborhood security watch, which police say marks a huge increase.

Police from the District 4 area — which covers Makapuu to Kahuku — have begun to deploy more patrol units and undercover officers.
