Police are conducting a homicide investigation into the death of a woman identified by friends this afternoon as Realtor Mary Beth San Juan, whose body was found Tuesday night on Punahou Street, police said.

Her body was discovered wrapped up in a carpet, on the driveway of a house at 1224 Punahou St., police said.

Criminal Investigations Division Maj. Richard Robinson said the body was discovered in the driveway by the ex-husband of the person who lived in the house.

Police have recovered the woman’s missing 2013 Mercedes sedan early this morning in Waikiki, police said.

There are injuries that indicate that it’s a homicide, Robinson said. The Medical Examiner department is scheduled to conduct an autopsy Wednesday to determing the cause of death.

He declined to provide details about the injuries or the scene or how long the body may have been there.

Rebecca Sabado, a security guard for Banyan Tree Plaza, which is next door, said a man tried to get her attention about 7 p.m. and told her that he had been trying to contact his ex-wife but couldn’t get in touch with her.

He noticed the carpet and went over, and Sabado said she smelled something foul and told him to get away.

Later, Sabado said, police told her the body inside the carpet was bound and gagged and that the woman was the man’s ex-wife.

He said he had dinner with her Saturday, Sabado said.
