The University of Hawaii has so far today closed three of its campuses as the state remains under a tropical storm warning and flash flood watch.
The university decided Sunday night to shut down the UH Hilo and Hawaii Community College campuses — both on the east side of Hawaii island — and UH Maui College in Kahului.
Tropical Storm Flossie was just off the Big Island this morning, and is projected to move northwest over Maui this afternoon before continuing toward Oahu.
“As for the rest of the campuses, we are waiting to see what the governor and his people decide and recommend today based on how other islands will be affected,” said university spokeswoman Lynne Waters.

Meanwhile, the majority of the state’s public school students are still on summer break until next week. But the Department of Education’s four multi-track schools on Oahu are in session today, the DOE said.
