Maui firefighters Tuesday rescued a 52-year-old Whitehall, Md., woman at a pool known as “Caveman.”

Crews from Paia Fire Station hiked up the Twin Falls trail and found the woman conscious, but lying in the water under the waterfall, a fire spokesman said in an e-mail.

The woman never lost consciousness, nor did she hit the rocks, but complained of pain to her lower back.

Her friend said she jumped about 30 feet into the pond and landed on her back in the water, the fire official said.

Firefighters secured her to a backboard, loaded her into a Stokes basket, and carried her about a quarter mile to an ambulance, which transported her in stable condition to the hospital.
