Man crashes into car in latest moped accident

A man on a moped, traveling at “high speed,” struck a car head-on in Ewa Beach Saturday night, according to an Emergency Medical Services report. The accident was the fifth serious moped crash in two days.

The accident happened on Hanakahi Street, just after 10 p.m.

The 31-year-old moped driver was in serious condition when paramedics took him to the hospital.

Early Saturday morning, a 24-year-old woman was critically injured when she apparently lost control of her moped and crashed in Aiea.

The moped crash happened on Honomanu Street and Kamehameha Highway in Aiea at about 1:07 a.m., an EMS official said.

Three other people were seriously injured in separate moped accidents in Kaimuki, Waimanalo and Waikiki Friday night.

A 22-year-old man driving a moped crashed into an “unknown stationary object” on 10th Avenue at about 8:25 p.m. according to an Emergency Medical Services report.

Paramedics took the man, who was not wearing a helmet, to a local trauma center in serious condition.

At about 9:09 p.m. paramedics took a 24-year-old woman to the hospital in serious condition after a reported moped accident near Bellows Air Force Station in Waimanalo.

A 50-year-old man was injured in another moped accident at about 9:40 p.m. near  the intersection of Ala Wai  Blvd. and Ainakea Way in Waikiki. Paramedics took him to the hospital  in serious condition.

The man was not wearing a helmet, according to EMS.
