A Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientist captured this view of the KupapaÔu Point ocean entry on the morning of August 7. Although no lava flow activity was observed on the coastal plain near the ocean entry, small streams of lava still poured into the sea.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory released new pictures of lava entering the ocean at Kupapau Point.

The photos taken last week show the lava continuing to reach the ocean even though surface flows are no longer visible.

A wispy gas plume rises as the lava drops into the sea.

Scientists say new breakout flows is burning small patches of forest north of Puu Oo vent.

One of the recent breakout flows to the south has reached the halfway point between the pali and the coast.
