A firefighter works to put out a brush fire in Nanakuli where the body of a Waianae man was found.

The city Department of Emergency Management is warning the public that critical fire weather conditions are either present this afternoon or are imminent until 6 p.m. Thursday in leeward areas of all the main Hawaiian Islands, except for Kahoolawe.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning due to strong winds and low relative humidity for mainly leeward areas.

Winds are blowing at 20 to 25 mph with higher gusts. Humidity is at 40 to 45 percent.

The public should take precautionary and preparedness actions, the Department of Emergency Management said.
