LAS VEGAS >> Officials are identifying a 20-year police officer who was off-duty when he shot a man in his vehicle outside a Las Vegas Strip hotel-casino.

Las Vegas police say the man who was wounded got into the parked vehicle and refused to get out about 9 p.m. Sunday while Detective Bernard Plaskett was delivering items to people at the Excalibur.

Police say the 54-year-old officer shot the man once in the wrist when he reached for something.

The wounded man ran, but was caught by security officers. He was treated at University Medical Center in Las Vegas for injuries that officials said didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

The man hasn’t been identified by police or charged with a crime.

Plaskett is on paid leave pending an administrative review of the shooting.
