The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the leeward areas of Oahu, the Big Island, Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai and Niihau effective through 6 p.m.

The warning indicates that critical fire weather conditions are occurring in the affected areas.

According to the weather service, the warning was prompted by the combination of northeasterly winds of 10 to 20 mph (with gusts of up to 30 mph) and relative humidity as low as 53 percent.
