Kalihi man charged with breaking car windshield with bat

Prosecutors charged a 45-year-old Kalihi man Thursday for allegedly shattering a 43-year-old man’s windshield with a baseball bat.

Leighton Kumai was charged with first-degree criminal property damage Thursday. His bail was set at $30,000.

Police said Kumai believed the man had stolen tools from his nephew’s truck. He allegedly followed the man and blocked him in traffic.

Kumai then allegedly shattered the man’s window using a baseball bat, police said. The incident occurred at 9:23 p.m. Wednesday, and he was arrested at 10:15 p.m.
