Thousands of origami cranes have been created by local and mainland volunteers in anticipation of the new Sadako Sasaki exhibit which will debut at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center on Saturday.

Sadako Sasaki was two years old and living in Hiroshima, Japan when the atomic bomb was dropped upon the city by U.S. forces on August 6, 1945. Sadako survived the blast but was subsequently diagnosed with leukemia due to radiation exposure at 11 years old.
