A 6-foot shark was spotted Thursday morning in Maui waters where a 45-year-old man was attacked by a shark Wednesday afternoon.

Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement officers returned to check the coastline along Kaehu Bay between Paukukalo and Waiehu when they saw a 6-foot shark of unknown species at  6:28 a.m.

DOCARE officers spotted the shark in about 50 yards offshore in the surf zone, but the shark disappeared and was not seen again, DLNR said.

Officers continued to monitor the beach until noon Thursday and reopened the beaches.
