No tsunami expected after strong earthquake near Tonga

    A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off Tonga this morning.

A Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected after a strong earthquake near Tonga Saturday morning.

The magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck at 8:54 a.m. Hawaii time about 214 miles northeast of Nukualofa, Tonga and 370miles south of Apia, Samoa at a depth of 6.2 miles.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
