It didn’t take long for Christian Standhardinger to add to his pile of Standhardware.
The Hawaii basketball senior forward was named the Big West Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Rainbow Warriors to a 2-0 start to the season.
Standhardinger averaged 18.5 points and eight rebounds in wins over Tennessee State and Western Michigan in the 49th Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Rainbow Classic.
UH concluded the Classic this morning against New Mexico State as part of the College Hoops Tip-off Marathon.
For Standhardinger, a returning All-Big West first-teamer, it was his third weekly honor from the league; he won it on back-to-back weeks last season. The 6-foot-8 native of Germany had 20 points and 12 rebounds in an 85-55 win over TSU and tied for team-high honors with 17 points in a 78-68 defeat of WMU.
Guard Brandon Jawato is the only other UH player to have been named Big West Player of the Week. The last ‘Bow to earn a Big West or WAC weekly award in the first week of the season was Hiram Thompson to open the 2010-11 campaign, Gib Arnold’s first season as coach.
Standhardinger and Arnold were unavailable for comment Monday.
