CTY - A line snaked around the parking lot prior to entrance at 5pm during the doorbuster shopping event on Thursday, November 30, 2013 at Toys R Us in Pearlridge. (Jamm Aquino/The Honolulu Star-Advertiser).

Toy R Us in Pearlridge opened its doors earlier than usual Thursday to hundreds of consumers, in keeping with a growing national holiday shopping trend.

The national chain store that had opened at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day in 2012 welcomed shoppers three hours earlier at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The Moanalua Road outlet was among nearly 20 stores that were open Thanksgiving Day, including Macy’s, Walmart and Best Buy.

“I’m a happy camper,” said Jane Bonilla, an Aiea resident whose family was the first in line at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“We got the main stuff we wanted.”

Before the opening, the line for Toys R Us wound around the parking lot, extending the length of more than three football fields, with people in portable chairs, sitting  next to their ice chest and under the shade of umbrellas.
