Waipahu fisherman fined for taking undersize papio

A 52-year Waipahu fisherman has been fined $250 for taking three undersize papio from Kalaeloa Deep Draft Harbor last month.

Lionel Tunac, 52, pled guilty Nov. 25 in District Court for possessing a papio less than 10 inches in length.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources said he was charged and sentenced at Waianae District Court.

Tunac was cited on Oct. 11 by Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement after an anonymous caller reported the incident. Tunac was seen possessing three undersized fishes while fishing.
