BYU-Hawaii advances to elite eight in volleyball

Junior All-American Shih Ting “Stella” Chen put down 23 kills and sophomore hitter Lacy Miyahiro had four of the team’s 10 aces as second-seeded Brigham Young-Hawaii upset top-seeded and host Cal State San Bernardino 25-15, 17-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10 Saturday night in the NCAA DII West Regional volleyball final at Coyote Den.

The victory sends the Seasiders (27-1) to the elite eight for the second year in a row. BYUH will play Ferris State Thursday.

Junior middle Erh Fang “Ariel” Hsu added 12 kills and freshman hitter Noel Pauga 10 as BYUH won its 20th in a row.

The Coyotes (27-6), seeing their 11-match win streak snapped were led by junior middle Tori May’s 22 kills. Sophomore middle Brenna McIntosh added 15 kills and sophomore hitter Alexandra Torline 12 for San Bernardino.
