The Hawaii women’s basketball team earned a measure of satisfaction over a former Big West Conference opponent with an 81-70 win at Pacific in Stockton, Calif., on Sunday afternoon.
UH (6-4) put up a season-high in points at the Alex G. Spanos Center as Laura Beeman’s team rallied from an 18-point deficit in the first half and a 10-point Pacific lead early in the second period.
Forward Kamilah Jackson had 13 points and six rebounds, snapping her double-double streak at seven, but UH still dominated the glass 37-27.
Ashleigh Karaitiana scored 15 points, Destiny King had 12 and Morgan Mason added 10 off the bench as UH went up at the midpoint of the second half and controlled the game late.
Pacific, last season’s Big West regular-season champ now of the West Coast Conference, fell to 4-4. And Gavin Petersen, an assistant coach on Beeman’s staff last year, is now on the Tigers’ staff.
Wahine shooting guard Sydney Haydel had a career-best seven assists.
UH shook off a 76-64 loss at Oregon State on Friday and will look to make it two straight on the road at USC on Saturday.
UH looked to take the lead in the final seconds of the first half to build on an 18-1 run. But Briana Harris lost the ball as she dribbled upcourt with 4.7 seconds left and Pacific banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer for a 36-32 lead at the break.
