Demetrius Treadwell scored 16 of his 24 points in the first half in front of President Barack Obama and the first family and Akron beat Oregon State 83-71 on Sunday in the first round of the Diamond Head Classic.

Nyles Evans added 17 points — including five 3-pointers — to help the Zips (6-2) extend their winning streak to six games. They have won 28 of their last 33 games dating to last season.

Akron built a 10-0 lead and led 16-2. Oregon State closed out the first half on a 15-9 run to pull to 35-34.
