Shark sightings close to shore closed DT Fleming Beach in Kapalua on Maui Saturday.

Ocean Safety officials said a hammerhead shark was seen about five to 10 yards offshore at bout9 a.m. and seen again at about 11:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Lifeguards closed the beach for about 2 hours after the initial sighting, closed it again for about 2 hours after the second sighting and closed it until this morning after the third sighting.

Lifeguards posted shark warning signs and advised beach-goers of the potential closure.

Ocean Safety officials said they would evaluate the situation this morning.

There have been 8 shark attacks on Maui this year, two have been fatal.
