Traffic stop leads to couple’s arrest for stolen car, drug charges

An alleged traffic violation near Pumehana and Waiola streets in McCully landed a 38-year-old man and 31-year-old woman in police custody early this morning after police discovered the car they were riding in had been reported stolen, according to police records.

Police said the responding officer also found drugs on the Palolo man, who allegedly was driving without a valid license.

Police arrested the man at 3 a.m. on suspicion of unauthorized control of a motorized vehicle, driving without a license, promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia, according to police records. His female passenger, of Nuuanu, was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

The owner of the car reported it missing on Sunday, police said.
