Homeless man allegedly tries to grab officer’s gun in Nuuanu


A 52-year-old homeless man is in custody today after he allegedly tried to the take the handgun of a Honolulu police officer.

The incident occurred just after 10:30 p.m. Monday near a 7-Eleven store in Nuuanu.

Honolulu police said they were responding to a report of a suspicious man when the suspect attacked the officer and tried to take the officer’s firearm.

The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree theft and assault on a law enforcement officer.
