The Hawaii women’s basketball team defeated Cal State Northridge 54-44 today to pick up its first Big West Conference victory of the season.

The game, which followed UH’s annual alumnae contest at the Stan Sheriff Center, was dedicated to the memory of Wahine great Judy Mosley-McAfee. Mosley died in September after a three-year battle with cancer. UH gave her a video tribute at halftime and presented two of her brothers with an honorary captain’s ball before tipoff as the crowd of 792 applauded.

UH (7-7, 1-1 Big West) responded after losing a heartbreaker in overtime to Cal Poly on Wednesday. It jumped out to a 15-0 lead and led wire-to-wire.

Wings Ashleigh Karaitiana and Shawna Kuehu scored 14 points apiece to lead UH.

CSUN (5-11, 1-1) was held to 31.6 percent in the loss.
