Potentially heavy rains are expected to pass by this afternoon, replaced by sunny skies and cool nights. But gusty winds will continue to blow, forecasters said.
A fast-moving cold front is forecast to move over the state, bringing rains to Oahu and Kauai tonight and spreading down the island chain today.
The forecast for Honolulu calls for breezy southwest winds and showers, especially after midnight, when they may become locally heavy.
The National Weather Service says there’s a 90 percent chance of rain this morning. Forecasters also expect gusty winds to continue through tonight.
The wind direction will shift as the front passes, becoming northwesterly and then northerly later tonight.
"Wind gusts to 45 mph may be possible with localized damage to infrastructure, such as power lines, and residences possible," forecasters said.
A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. today for Haleakala National Park above 6,000 feet and Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea above 8,000 feet. Forecasters expect westerly winds of 30 to 45 mph with gusts to 55 mph.
The front is expected to pass quickly and skies should be sunny by this afternoon on Oahu with only isolated showers.
North winds and dry, cooler air behind the front will drop temperatures at night into the 50s and low 60s for the next several nights.
