A radar image shows the cold front approaching the islands. Heavy rain is expected Monday and Tuesday with a chance of thunderstorms, forecasters say.

Party sunny skies and breezy north winds are expected this morning, but skies will turn cloudy tonight in Honolulu and there’s a chance of locally heavy rain.

A cold front that brought cloudy skies and showers to the Pro Bowl at Aloha Stadium is expected to stall and linger near the Big Island today and Tuesday.

The front, combined with unstable atmospheric conditions, is expected to bring scattered showers today and Tuesday. Some of the rain may be heavy, and there’s a slight chance of thunderstorms.

Today will be a little chilly with temperatures dropping again into the low 60s and 50s.

Trade winds should briefly return Wednesday and Thursday. But winds will shift again to the southwest as a new cold front approaches the state bringing rain this weekend.
