Rice University has been added to the schedule as the University of Hawaii football team’s 13th game for 2014, the schools announced today.

They will play Oct. 4 in Houston. It will be their first meeting since 2004 they were Western Athletic Conference competitors.

The Owls were 10-4 and Conference USA champions in 2013.

Under terms of the agreement, UH said the Owls will play in Aloha Stadium at a yet to be determined date in 2018.

UH has played a 12-game schedule each of the past two seasons and athletic director Ben Jay sought a 13th game for 2014.

The Rainbow Warriors’ 2014 non-conference schedule also includes Washington, Oregon State, Northern Iowa and Colorado.
