SEED restaurant, a new business that is an offshoot of Bluewater Mission, will open at 5 p.m. Friday in the former Bella Mia space.
Valentine’s Day is among the four busiest days in the restaurant industry.
SEED’s farm-to-table menu will include ingredients picked from its on-site garden, as well as fresh fish dishes, baked, katsu-style chicken, and signature stir-fry, among other dishes.
Head chef Yiuing Lee Pinches has worked in kitchens from Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area of California, to Osaka, Japan.
“SEED is about doing business the right way,” said project manager Sonya Seng. “Business can be an expression of justice and joy. The name SEED was chosen because it speaks of hope and change. A seed is just the beginning.”
Staff members are survivors of homelessness, human trafficking and domestic abuse, among other difficulties and the restaurant provides them with work-training and economic opportunity, according to a statement.
The restaurant, at 1137 11th Ave., will stage a grand opening Feb. 28, after which it will open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
It does not yet have a liquor license and will offer customers a BYOB option.
