  • A traffic camera shows the scene at Kamehameha Highway and Kaonohi Street Thursday morning.

The two righthand, eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway were closed Thursday morning between Lipoa Place and Pali Momi Street in Pearl City because of a water main break.

Three customers, all businesses, at the Pearl Kai Shopping Center are without water, a Board of Water Supply spokesman said. A water bypass system has been installed and a water wagon has been set up in the parking lot of McDonald’s to provide an alternate water source.

The main break was reported at 4:53 a.m. at 98-135 Kamehameha Highway.

Police had shut down all eastbound lanes, but reopened the left lane at 6:15 a.m.

Traffic is being redirected up Kaonohi Street to Moanalua Road.

The 12-inch cast iron main was originally installed in 1961, according to the BWS.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as work is expected to continue throughout the day.
