Hawaii County police arrested a 30-year-old Kailua-Kona man Thursday on suspicion of operating a vehicle, a commercial dive boat, under the influence of an intoxicant.

The Coast Goard notified police 10:13 p.m. Wednesday that a commercial dive boat and its operator had been reported missing.

The dive boat operator apparently left the boat’s customers stranded at a dive spot off the Kailua-Kona coast.

Another tour company picked up the boat’s customers.

The inflatable boat Sea Wolf and its operator were found drifting offshore and were towed to Honokohau Harbor by another boat, police said.

Police arrested the man shortly after midnight Thursday.

He was released pending further investigation.
