No. 10 Texas beats Hawaii twice to take series

Kacy Clemens hit a two-out single to center to score Ben Johnson, who drew a one-out walk, in the bottom of the eighth inning to give No. 10 Texas a 3-2 win over Hawaii to complete the first game Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas.

Texas (13-4) closed out the series with a 4-1 win in the second game to take three of four in the series.

Hawaii (7-9) put the tying run on base with one out in the ninth inning of the first game before Trevor Podratz hit into a game-ending double play.

C.J. Hinojosa hit a two-run single in the second game and Mark Payton extended his consecutive games streak reaching base to 56 with three walks and two runs scored for the Longhorns.

Scott Kuzminsky (1-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in two innings.

Eric Gleese (0-3) was credited with the loss in the first game that was completed after Saturday’s game was postponed with the score 2-2 heading to the top of the eighth.

Designated hitter Jordan Richartz singled home L.J. Brewster for Hawaii’s only run of the day. Richartz finished the series 6-for-13 at the plate with three RBIs.

Both teams scored 11 runs in the series.

Hawaii returns home to host Nevada for a four-game series starting Friday.
