Hee Hing Restaurant will close for six months as part of an exhaustive renovation of Hee Hing Plaza at 449 Kapahulu Ave.

The plaza’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, or HVAC system will be redone, the Kapahulu Avenue facade will be updated and modernized to include an open-air, second floor deck and a 30-foot by 40 foot skylight, according to a statement.

Pint and Jigger will expand with a second location to open in the renovated plaza, with most existing tenants to remain open during the renovation.

The renovation of Hee Hing Restaurant will decrease its floor space to 6,000 square feet from 12,000, but banquets of 250 people still will be possible upon its reopening, the statement said.

Customers with gift cards are encouraged to redeem them prior to April 15.

The restaurant has been owned and operated by the Lee family for some 50 years and many of its employees will be transferred to the soon-to-open Manapua to Go operation, under construction at 580 N. Nimitz Highway, where Aloha Beer Co. was formerly located.
