The fire was first reported as an electrical short at a single family house in Waipahu.

A Waipahu house fire on Sunday night left eight people homeless and $150,000 in damages, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.

Eight people lived in the single family house located on Lumi Street. Members ranged from 9- to 87-years-old.

Only one unit responded after the fire was first reported as an electrical short at 8:49 p.m. But firefighters soon discovered it was a structural fire and called another unit to assist.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 8:56 p.m. and the blaze was under control by 9:02 p.m. The fire was extinguished at 9:07 p.m, according to a HFD official.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross also responded to help the family.

No injuries were reported.

The cause is still under investigation. Firefighters plan to return during the day on Monday to investigate.
