2 men charged with stealing copper wire in Nimitz Highway area

Two men were charged Wednesday with stealing copper wire in the Nimitz Highway area.

Michael Akau, 34, and Shawn Ogasawara, 36, were charged with the theft of the copper. Akau’s bail was set at $50,000, and Ogasawara’s at $15,000.

Honolulu police said the two men had no local address.

The alleged theft took place at about 11:54 p.m. on Monday.

Honolulu police said patrol officers were sent to the Nimitz area after receiving a “suspicious circumstance type case.”

Upon arrival, officers observed two men attempting to steal copper wiring and they were arrested.
