Big Island firefighters and Coast Guard personnel rescued two kayakers stranded in waters near Kawaihae Pier by strong offshore tradewinds on Sunday.
Firefighters responding to a 12:27 p.m. emergency call spotted the two kayakers unable to return to shore due to strong northeasterly winds and deployed a rescue swimmer to assist them.
The Coast Guard cutter Kiska was in the area on a training exercise and transported the two kayakers to Kawaihae Pier.
No injuries were reported.
