Honolulu police closed Punahou Street at King Street near Washington Intermediate School and the Tesoro gas staion after arresting a suspect for attempted murder Tuesday afternoon.

Two officers were injured when a 31-year-old car thief tried to run them down while trying to get away in a stolen car Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Officers were attempting to stop the Ewa Beach man, who was speeding on South King street in a stolen car, police said.  The suspect turned into a Tesoro gas station on Punahou Street, injured two officers and hit two vehicles, just after 4 p.m.

Police arrested the suspect at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, auto theft and resisting arrest.

Police blocked off Punahou Street and the gas station during the afternoon rush hour as they conducted an investigation at the scene.
