Man killed in Kihei motorcycle crash identified

A 63-year-old man died following a motorcycle accident in Kihei early Friday on the Piilani Highway.

Police identified the victim as Clifford Spencer, 63, of Kahului. He died from his injuries following the crash at 1:56 a.m.

Police said Spencer was driving a black 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Piilani Highway near Kaiwahine Street when he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a guard rail.

Spencer was not wearing a helmet, police said.

Police are still investigating whether speed, alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

The death is the fourth traffic fatality on Maui this year, compared to four at the same time last year.
