This composite satellite image shows low clouds over Kauai and other clouds ahead of a cold front moving over other islands late Sunday morning.

A weak cold front moving over the islands could bring a slight increase in showers to windward and mauka areas starting Sunday, National Weather Service forecasters said.

The weather system moved over Kauai Sunday morning and is expected to reach Oahu and Maui County Sunday night.

Rains associated with the front are expected to fall on windward and mauka areas and are not likely to affect Honolulu and other leeward areas.

Forecasters expect mostly sunny skies over Honolulu with trade winds of 10 to 20 mph through Tuesday and the possibility of isolated showers.

Windward and mauka areas on Oahu have a 50 to 70 percent chance of rain, the weather service said.

Trades could become breezy through Wednesday night, but will weaken Thursday and Friday as another weak cold front moves over the state.
