Man sentenced to 5 years in copper theft case

LIHUE >> A 43-year-old Hanapepe man has been sentenced to five years in prison in a copper theft case.

The Garden Island reported that Jon Lopez Ceda was sentenced on Wednesday in 5th Circuit Court for felony second-degree burglary in connection with the 2012 theft at the old Kekaha sugar mill.

Ceda also was sentenced to one year for a misdemeanor charge of possessing burglars’ tools. That term will run concurrently with the felony sentence.

Ceda was arrested after witnesses in September 2012 reportedly saw flashlights on at the old Kekaha sugar mill.
