Maui firefighters were called back to the same general area of a brush fire late Wednesday afternoon within 10 minutes of extinguishing the first one.

Firefighters had just completed extinguishing a brush fire at 5:10 p.m. in Kihei when they got a call at 5:20 p.m. for a second blaze south of the first one.

Firefighters extinguished the second fire at 7:10 p.m. that scorched a half acre blaze. The fire investigator could not determine the cause of the fires.

It was likely caused by a spot fire ignited by the first fire, the Maui Fire Department said in a news release.

No damage was reported.

The first fire was reported at 12:46 p.m. Wednesday on the south side of Kaonoulu Street below Piilani Highway.

Eight engine companies, two tankers and a helicopter responded to the two-acre fire.
