Hawaii County authorities charged a 26-year-old Kona man Wednesday with methamphetamine trafficking after seizing more than a half-pound of the drug.

Vice officers, during a drug investigation, recovered 248.5 grams of a crystalline substance and a small amount of a dried leafy green substance in the car of the man and a 29-year-old woman in Kailua-Kona.

Police also recovered $2,200 in cash, an additional 3.1 grams of a crystalline substance and drug paraphernalia from the man, Derwin Breithaupt.

Breithaupt was charged Wednesday night with two counts of meth trafficking, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of promoting a detrimental drug. The woman was released.
