A 54-year-old man drowned Wednesday in waters off Kua Bay in Kona, the Hawaii Police Department said.

He has been identified as Robert Gregory Osborne of Holualoa.

At 1:25 p.m., Osborne was seen floating and was pulled to shore by bystanders, who attempted CPR, police said.  Fire personnel arrived and took him to Kona Community Hospital, where he died.

An autopsy revealed that he died of saltwater drowning.
