Kauai firefighters and police recovered a body believed to be that of a female kayaker reported missing Thursday night.

The body was located about 11:30 a.m. Friday in a stream about a quarter-mile from Uluwehi Falls in Wailua.

Police are investigating the incident but do not believe that foul play was involved in the woman’s death.

On Thursday, an employee from a kayak rental company went looking for a woman who had failed to return her rented kayak by the 5 p.m. deadline. The employee located a kayak and paddle in the Wailua River but found no sign of the woman.

Police, firefighters and personnel from the Department of Land and Natural Resources participated in Friday’s search.

An autopsy on the body will be conduced early next week.
