Hiker hospitalized after rescue from trail
Fire rescue personnel rescued a 30-year-old hiker who fell unconscious Saturday afternoon on a trail above St. Louis Heights.
Fire Department spokesman David Jenkins said the local man was hiking with another 30-year-old man when he passed out at about 3:30 p.m. on the Wa’ahila Ridge Trail.
The fellow hiker called 911 and Emergency Medical Services personnel assisted him in maintaining the patient’s airway, Jenkins said. Others along the trail also assisted the man, he said.
The Fire Department got the call at 3:35 p.m. and dispatched personnel, including a helicopter.
A fire rescue crew arrived at the man’s side about 4:13 p.m. and he was flown by helicopter to the trailhead, where Emergency Medical Services personnel met him.
EMS transported the man to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
