Mechanical failure with the Zip Mobile shut down the zipper lane on the H-1 freeway eastbound this morning, causing major traffic snarls for Friday morning commuters.

The zipperlane is being deployed for testing Saturday morning in the Ewa-bound lanes of the H-1 Freeway airport viaduct between the H-1 onramp from Nimitz Highway and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam offramp.

The state Department of Transportation is testing the Zip Mobile between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The zipperlane will not be open for traffic.

One Ewa-bound lane will be closed when the zipperlane is deployed.
