A 31-year-old California woman was injured Wednesday while sliding down a water slide in a remote moutainous area in West Maui at Kahoma Ranch.

Maui firefighters used all-terrain vehicles to respond  at 12:31 p.m. to the site where the injured woman was found being supported in the shallow water of a pond by a crew member of the Fire Department helicopter, officials said in an email.

The woman complained of low- and mid-back pain.

Rescue personnel assessed her condition and secured her to a backboard, and she was then airlifted by the fire helicopter to a landing zone at Lahainaluna High School. The woman was taken by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.

The woman was from Granite Bay, Calif.

Kahoma Ranch has three water slides, which are plastic sheets affixed to the ground.

The ranch is located between Lahaina and Kaanapali.
