Maui man dies of injuries from motorcycle crash

A Kula man who crashed his motorcycle in Pukalani has died from his injuries.

The Maui News reports 50-year-old Russell Szabo died Friday at Kaiser Medical Center on Oahu.

Maui police say Szabo and a passenger shortly after 7 p.m. June 7 were driving north on Old Haleakala Highway.

Police say Szabo lost control of the motorcycle, crossed the centerline and struck a curb.

The 45-year-old female passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Szabo was transported to Maui Memorial and eventually Oahu.

Police say neither Szabo nor his passenger wore helmets.

The fatality is Maui County’s 13th this year. The island had eight at this time last year.
