A 56-year-old diver remains missing after disappearing in waters off Kaena Point on Saturday afternoon.

A diving partner reported the man missing around 2:44 p.m. after the two became separated while making their way from Mokuleia to Yokohama Bay, according to HFD spokesman Kevin Mokulehua.

Honolulu Fire Department and Coast Guard rescue personnel conducted air and sea searches of the area but were unable to locate the man.

A diving float and spear was recovered by a fishing vessel about a mile and a half offshore from Kaena Point. Authorities are trying to determine whether it belonged the missing diver, Mokulehua said.

HFD suspended its search for the man at 6:30 p.m. but will resume Sunday at first light.

The Coast Guard will continue to search through the night.
